An equivalent to America’s Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards (CFDA), the AFI Africa Fashion Awards honors and promotes the best of African creativity and industry in fashion and fashion-related fields, globally. “Just being nominated among the best of the best is an honor for me.” said the USA based Oduok. “It is good to know hard work pays off and is noticed on such an international and important platform. Thank you to AFI for the honor. Special thanks to the numerous publishers, worldwide, that have and will provide their platforms for me to share the beautiful side of Africa through my fashion stories.”

The Award ceremony took place yesterday, Monday July 5, 2010 in Johannesburg. Judging was completed over the weekend and involved three rounds judged by both South African and an international jury made up of fashion industry leaders.

“When I began writing fashion stories about Africa and building the Ladybrille platform to share with the Western audience, there was no one doing it,” adds Oduok “Today, thankfully, there are many helping to spread the beauty about Africa through fashion. But, there is still more to be done in letting the West know who Africans really are.”
